This photo was taken in 2018 on an evening in Oxford when Michael stood in for a more formal Zen teacher. 

In his teaching role he is often assisted by Frank the frog:

Michael's teacher, who runs a really friendly group in Washington State, USA, is Koro Kaisan Miles, the man with the magnificent white beard. His son Jeff, who has the magnificent brown beard, is a monk at a Vietnamese Zen centre and Michael's son, Jack, is the chap with no beard at all.

Miles is retired, dividing his time between Zen ministry and launching home-made rockets into the sky.
